Abstract

A case of retrocaval ureter in a 39-year-old Korean man, in which the diagnosis was made preoperatively has been reported with a review of the literatures.
This condition should be suspected in any unexplained right hydronephrosis, because there are no pathognomonic signs or symptoms. The preoperative diagnosis depends upon the demonstration of an abnormal course of the ureter by intravenous and retrograde pyelography, but the simultaneous catheterization of the vena cava and of the ureter is necessary for the confirmation.
The prefered method of treatment consist of section and reanastomosis of the ureter
